Welcome to YEAR 3

In Y3, we pride ourselves on the smooth transition into Key Stage 2. One of our aims is to ensure that children are confident and motivated to learn more independently. Our Y3 curriculum is designed to serve the needs of all pupils, using a variety of approaches and stimuli, including visits, visitors, theme days and engaging activities. We are committed to making learning enjoyable in a safe environment protected from harm. In Year 3, every pupil studies subjects prescribed by the National Curriculum, exploiting cross-curricular links where appropriate.

Our staff are:

Mrs E Woodley, Mr Good, Mrs Edon, Mrs Hinchley and Mrs Collier

Subject Long Term Plans

Our Homework Expectations:

Reading Plus/lexia  to be done for approximately 30 minutes at home twice weekly. This can be written in the reading record to count as a reading session.

Reading – reading daily if possible but a minimum of 3 times a week and please record and sign in the individual reading records. Reading records will be checked on a Thursday.

Maths – maths will usually be set on My Maths and/or Times Table Rockstars. This will be set on a Thursday to be completed by the following Wednesday evening. The maths work will link to the objectives being taught in school.

Spellings – a list of spelling words are set on Monday via spelling shed but they will also receive a paper copy to keep at home. The children will need to complete the activities on spelling shed and learn the words. There will then be a test in school on a Monday.

If for any reason your child is unable to do their homework or they struggle with it, a brief note from home in their reading record would be appreciated. Please note reading records are not routinely seen by an adult daily.

Other homework may be set, but this will not be regular.

We are very much looking forward to working with your child and hope that he/she will enjoy their time in Year 3. We work best when there is an effective partnership with parents so, if you have any concerns, or wish to discuss an aspect of your child’s education, please do not hesitate to get in touch. If you wish to pass on a message, we have helpful staff on the entrance to Y3 every morning who will be happy to assist you.
